Are AURA’s Peptides Halal-Friendly? The Direct Answer to a Fair Question

AURA serum formulation — are our peptides halal animal-derived or synthetic

It is a fair question, and one we want to answer properly. When people hear that a skincare product contains peptides, the immediate concern for many Muslim consumers — and anyone else who carefully evaluates what they put on their skin — is where those peptides come from. Peptides are chains of amino acids, and amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Proteins exist in animals. So are the peptides in AURA products derived from animals, from pork or lard, or processed with alcohol?

The direct answer is no. Here is the full explanation of why.

Where AURA’s peptides actually come from

The peptides in AURA’s formulas are synthetically manufactured in a laboratory through a process called chemical synthesis. They are not extracted from any animal, not sourced from porcine (pig) or bovine (cattle) material, and not processed using alcohol.

Chemical synthesis means that amino acids — the individual building blocks that make up a peptide chain — are assembled one by one in a controlled laboratory environment using synthetic chemistry. The resulting peptide molecule is identical in structure to the naturally occurring one it replicates, but produced entirely without biological source material. No animal is involved at any stage of the process.

As Purelab Care’s breakdown of halal cosmetic ingredients confirms, most skincare peptides are synthetic and halal-friendly — the distinction is between synthetically manufactured peptides and animal-derived collagen peptides, which are a different category entirely.

Understanding the difference: synthetic peptides vs animal-derived peptides

Not all peptides in skincare are the same. There are two fundamentally different types:

Synthetically manufactured peptides — made in a laboratory through chemical synthesis. This is the category AURA’s peptides fall into. Synthetic peptides are created through laboratory processes involving chemical synthesis, which allows precise control over their structure and function and means they are not derived from any biological source. No animal material. No pork. No alcohol.

Animal-derived collagen peptides — extracted from animal connective tissue, typically bovine (cattle), porcine (pig), or marine (fish) sources. These are commonly found in oral collagen supplements and in some skincare products that use hydrolysed collagen as an ingredient. Collagen peptides are short chains of amino acids produced by breaking down collagen from animal or marine sources — these require halal verification of both the animal source and the slaughter method. AURA does not use this category of peptide.

The specific peptides in AURA LIFT — Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Copper Tripeptide-1 — are all pharmaceutical-grade synthetic peptides manufactured through chemical synthesis. Their names reflect their precise molecular structure (the amino acid sequence and any attached carrier molecules like the palmitoyl group), not any biological origin.

On alcohol

AURA’s formulas do not use alcohol (ethanol) as a solvent, carrier, or functional ingredient. Some skincare products use alcohol as a preservative, solvent, or to create a fast-drying texture. This carries its own concerns for skin barrier health regardless of religious considerations — high-alcohol formulas contribute to barrier disruption and compensatory sebum production. AURA’s formulas are designed without this, for the same reason we avoid other barrier-disruptive ingredients: it undermines the purpose of the formula.

On pork and lard

Neither porcine-derived ingredients nor lard are present in any AURA formula. The concern around pork-derived ingredients in skincare is legitimate, as porcine collagen, porcine placenta, and lard-based emollients have historically appeared in some cosmetic products. AURA’s peptides, as noted above, are synthetically manufactured and entirely free of porcine origin. Our other ingredients — ceramides, panthenol, niacinamide, centella asiatica, hexylresorcinol — are all either plant-derived or synthetically manufactured.

What halal cosmetic compliance actually requires

Halal cosmetic ingredients must meet three main criteria: source (cannot come from pigs, non-halal-slaughtered animals, or intoxicating alcohols), processing (no cross-contamination with non-halal materials during manufacturing), and safety and cleanliness (free from harmful contamination and produced under hygienic conditions).

On source: AURA’s peptides are synthetic, not animal-derived. Our other ingredients are plant-derived or synthetic. No porcine material. No ethanol.

On processing: our formulas are manufactured in facilities that do not involve cross-contamination with haram materials.

We are transparent about this because we believe the people who ask this question deserve a clear, complete answer rather than a vague reassurance. We have not at this time sought formal halal certification from a certification body, and we want to be honest about that distinction. What we can tell you clearly is the factual status of every ingredient category in our formulas: synthetically manufactured peptides, plant-derived or synthetic supporting ingredients, no animal-extracted material, no porcine origin, no ethanol.

Questions about specific ingredients

We welcome questions about specific ingredients in any of our formulas. If you have a concern about a particular ingredient and would like the sourcing detail before purchasing, reach out to us directly at care@go-aura.co and we will give you a complete and factual answer.

Skincare that works should also be skincare you can use with confidence. We want that for every person who uses AURA, regardless of what their confidence depends on.

Summary: Are AURA peptides animal-derived, pork/lard, or alcohol?

No. The peptides in AURA formulas are synthetically manufactured through chemical synthesis in a laboratory. No animal source. No porcine or bovine extraction. No alcohol used in the peptide production or in the formula itself. Other formula ingredients are plant-derived or synthetic.
