PDRN is the most talked-about skincare ingredient of 2026. Search interest has grown over 700% year-on-year. Anua, MEDIHEAL, Skin1004, Medicube — the Korean brands that set Singapore’s skincare agenda have all launched PDRN lines. The marketing language around it borrows the authority of aesthetic medicine: “salmon DNA,” “PDRN injection-grade,” “clinical repair.”
AURA LIFT uses a different approach. We use a multi-peptide system — SH-Oligopeptide-1 (stabilised EGF) at 3%, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline), MSM, and Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) in prior formulations — rather than PDRN. This is not a gap in our awareness of the category. It is a deliberate formulation choice, and we think it is the better one for daily at-home topical use. Here is the reasoning.
What PDRN actually is
PDRN — Polydeoxyribonucleotide — is a purified DNA fragment derived from salmon sperm (Oncorhynchus mykiss). It consists of short fragments of salmon DNA that have been extracted, purified, and sterilised for use in medical and cosmetic applications. PDRN promotes wound healing and collagen synthesis through DNA fragment signalling to activate cellular repair and regeneration at a fundamental level.
Its primary mechanism is binding to adenosine A2A receptors on skin cells, which triggers a downstream cascade: increased fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and improved tissue vascularisation. Laboratory and wound-healing research has associated PDRN with increased fibroblast activity, improved blood-vessel formation, reduced pro-inflammatory signalling, and more organised collagen deposition.
The biological logic is genuine. PDRN is not a fabricated trend ingredient. The mechanism is well-characterised and the medical evidence for its applications in wound healing and tissue repair is extensive.
Where PDRN’s evidence is strong — and where it is not
The PDRN evidence base has a significant split that most brand marketing does not acknowledge: the injectable evidence is genuinely strong, the topical evidence is still in its early chapters.
Rejuran — the injectable PDRN treatment offered at Singapore aesthetic clinics — has meaningful clinical evidence behind it. Delivered by injection directly into the dermis, PDRN reaches the fibroblasts and vascular structures where it operates. In this delivery context, the evidence for skin elasticity improvement, collagen density increase, and wrinkle depth reduction is real and well-documented.
The delivery problem is real and underacknowledged in topical PDRN marketing. PDRN is hydrophilic and can be unstable in some water-based systems, which means the formulation is critical for its efficacy. More fundamentally, PDRN’s molecular size presents the same skin barrier challenge as any large hydrophilic molecule trying to cross a lipid-based barrier. The intact stratum corneum was designed to keep large water-soluble molecules out. Without penetration assistance — microneedling, sonophoresis, electroporation, or injectable delivery — the proportion of topically applied PDRN that reaches the dermis in quantities sufficient to drive fibroblast activation is uncertain and very likely substantially lower than what injectable delivery achieves.
What copper peptide (GHK-Cu) does differently
Copper Tripeptide-1, abbreviated GHK-Cu, is a naturally occurring tripeptide-copper complex found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Unlike PDRN, it was not developed as a pharmaceutical before entering cosmetics. It is the skin’s own repair signalling molecule, present at concentrations that decline with age and injury.
GHK-Cu’s mechanisms are multiple and overlapping:
Wound healing cascade activation. GHK-Cu activates the same biological repair pathway the skin runs after physical injury — fibroblast proliferation, upregulation of collagen and elastin synthesis, and MMP modulation that clears damaged collagen before new synthesis replaces it. Applied consistently through a daily serum, it delivers a continuous low-level regenerative signal without requiring an injury event to trigger the cascade.
Anti-inflammatory cytokine modulation. GHK-Cu reduces the pro-inflammatory cytokines that suppress fibroblast function and drive inflammaging. This is the mechanism that makes GHK-Cu more than a collagen ingredient — it addresses the inflammatory environment that determines how effectively every other collagen-stimulating active in the formula can do its work.
MMP modulation. GHK-Cu both stimulates MMP production (to clear damaged matrix components) and inhibits MMP overexpression (to prevent excessive collagen degradation). This two-directional modulation is unique to GHK-Cu among topical actives and represents a quality-control function for collagen synthesis that pure production stimulators do not provide.
Antioxidant function. The copper atom in GHK-Cu is a cofactor for superoxide dismutase, one of the skin’s primary antioxidant enzymes. GHK-Cu contributes to the antioxidant defence system that neutralises UV-generated free radicals — addressing the oxidative stress component of photoaging from within the skin’s own enzymatic system.
Penetration by lipophilic design. Small peptides in the 500 to 1000 dalton range have significantly better topical penetration than PDRN’s larger molecular weight. GHK-Cu is further modified in formulation to enhance lipid-pathway penetration, reaching the dermis through the skin barrier’s own lipid channels rather than requiring disruption of the barrier to deliver its mechanism.
PDRN repairs. Peptides instruct. Why that distinction matters for daily topical use
This distinction is more important than it first appears for the context of daily at-home topical use.
PDRN’s repair mechanism is optimised for damaged tissue — post-procedure skin, wound healing, skin recovering from significant UV or inflammatory injury. Its strength is the depth and completeness of the regenerative signal it delivers when it reaches the dermis. That strength depends on delivery. In injectable or microneedling-assisted contexts, PDRN reaches the dermis reliably. In daily topical use on intact skin, the delivery is uncertain.
AURA’s multi-peptide approach is optimised for daily maintenance and prevention on intact skin. Signal peptides (matrikines, EGF) communicate with fibroblasts and keratinocytes through receptors that are accessible at the dermal-epidermal junction, not only in the deep dermis. Palmitoylated peptides are lipid-modified to cross the intact stratum corneum through its own lipid pathways. EGF (SH-Oligopeptide-1) at 3% operates at concentrations verified to drive keratinocyte and fibroblast proliferation in topical clinical settings. Argireline works at the neuromuscular junction level without requiring dermal penetration at all.
The result: a formula where every active has a defined, verified mechanism operating at the penetration depth it actually reaches in daily topical application, rather than a formula whose hero ingredient’s mechanism depends on a delivery condition that topical application on intact skin does not reliably provide.
Why multi-peptide is better than single-pathway for long-term skin function
PDRN operates primarily through one pathway: adenosine A2A receptor activation driving the cellular repair cascade. It is a broad, powerful signal in the right delivery context.
AURA LIFT’s multi-peptide approach deliberately covers multiple pathways simultaneously because visible skin ageing and barrier decline are produced by multiple simultaneous biological processes, none of which is more important than the others in isolation.
EGF (SH-Oligopeptide-1) signals keratinocyte and fibroblast proliferation — cellular renewal at the source. The growth factor the skin uses after UV exposure, stress, and time to run its renewal cycle, delivered at 3% to maintain the efficiency of that cycle as it naturally declines with age.
Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) works at the neuromuscular junction, reducing the mechanical force of facial muscle contractions that physically etch expression lines deeper into a thinning collagen matrix. No other ingredient category in the AURA formula addresses this mechanism. No PDRN formulation addresses it either.
MSM provides the sulphur that collagen crosslinking requires to be structurally sound. Newly synthesised collagen that lacks adequate crosslinking is present in the dermis but not structurally integrated. MSM closes this gap at the material chemistry level, not the signalling level.
TECA and Centella Asiatica address the inflammaging pathway — the chronic low-level inflammation that suppresses fibroblast responsiveness to every signalling active in the formula, including EGF. By reducing the inflammatory environment fibroblasts operate in, the Centella system amplifies what EGF can produce.
PGA and Sodium Hyaluronate maintain the surface hydration that barrier function, penetration consistency, and surface-level skin quality all depend on.
The combined effect covers: cellular renewal signalling (EGF), mechanical expression line management (Argireline), structural collagen integrity (MSM), inflammaging suppression (TECA + Centella), and barrier hydration (HA + PGA) — five distinct mechanisms, each addressing a part of the ageing and barrier decline problem that the others do not reach.
A PDRN formulation, even with strong topical delivery, addresses primarily the repair and regeneration pathway. It does not address the neuromuscular origin of expression lines. It does not address collagen crosslinking integrity. It does not address the specific inflammaging suppression that allows fibroblast responsiveness to be maintained over years of use. These are not minor gaps.
The additional context: PDRN’s animal-derived origin and the Medicube recall
PDRN is salmon-derived. It is extracted from the sperm of Oncorhynchus mykiss (rainbow trout or salmon). For consumers following halal guidelines, vegetarian or vegan skincare principles, or with concerns about animal-derived ingredients in cosmetics, this is a formulation consideration that most PDRN marketing does not address clearly.
AURA’s synthetic peptides are not animal-derived. They are chemically synthesised amino acid sequences with no animal origin in the manufacturing process. This is not a coincidence — it was a deliberate formulation choice made at the same time as the decision to use peptides rather than biological extracts for the active system.
The Medicube recall of August 2026 — in which two batches of the PDRN Pink Collagen Capsule Cream were recalled by HSA after a banned industrial dye (Sudan IV) was detected in samples sold through a local retailer — is relevant context, though not a direct argument against PDRN as an ingredient. The recall most likely reflects a supply chain contamination or counterfeit product issue rather than an inherent problem with PDRN itself. What it does illustrate is that products built around exotic, biologically-derived ingredients sourced through complex international supply chains carry supply chain integrity risks that synthetic, well-characterised peptide ingredients do not face to the same degree.

Where PDRN genuinely leads
Being direct about this: PDRN has genuine advantages in specific contexts that AURA LIFT’s multi-peptide approach does not replicate.
In injectable form for post-procedure recovery — after microneedling, laser resurfacing, or significant inflammatory skin events — PDRN’s repair cascade activation is deep, rapid, and broad. The biology of tissue reconstruction from significant damage has requirements that targeted signalling peptides cannot fully meet. PDRN’s depth of repair signal in a delivered context is genuinely different from what peptide signalling provides.
If you are undergoing regular aesthetic procedures in Singapore and your clinic offers PDRN as a post-procedure treatment, the evidence for its use in that context is reasonable and the delivery condition (compromised barrier, direct application to treated skin) actually addresses the penetration limitation of topical PDRN. This is a legitimate use case.
Why we chose multi-peptide over PDRN for daily at-home use
The formulation decision comes down to one question: what delivers the most complete, most verified biological mechanism to skin through daily twice-daily topical application on intact skin in Singapore’s climate?
PDRN’s strongest evidence is from injectable delivery. Its topical delivery on intact skin is uncertain and the topical evidence mixed. Its mechanism, even when delivered, addresses one primary pathway.
AURA LIFT’s multi-peptide system covers five pathways simultaneously with actives whose topical mechanisms have decades of peer-reviewed evidence, whose penetration to the relevant skin layers is defined and engineered, and whose stability at tropical ambient temperatures is tested rather than assumed.
We chose multi-peptide because it is the better answer to the specific question of daily topical skin maintenance for long-term skin function. PDRN may be the better answer to post-procedure recovery in a clinic context. Both statements can be true. We are building for the first context.
PDRN repairs. Peptides instruct. The distinction matters most when the delivery condition — intact skin, twice daily, at home — is the one you are actually in.
AURA LIFT’s five-pathway multi-peptide approach is built for that condition. Every active with verified topical delivery. Every mechanism addressing a dimension of skin ageing and barrier decline that the others do not reach. No salmon DNA required.
